October 3rd: Remembering Beth Adamson
This year for #IDG2018 we honor the incredible advocacy of Beth Adamson, a tireless champion of Girls’ Rights, who passed away on August 11th of this year. We remember her and we continue the work in her legacy.
Beth was a proud member of the Working Group on Girls and she shepherded it from a working group under UNICEF to WGG Inc. She believed that WGG was key to bringing an era of gender equality and ending violence against girls.
Beth inspired many, and was an especially devoted and nurturing mentor to WGG’s Girl Advocates. She ensured every Girl Advocate had the love, skills and encouragement she needed to build a strong voice and use it at the UN and every day.
Not only did she mentor many Girl Advocates, but also members of NGOWGG and the other UN communities where she gave so much of her time.
Her favorite question was, “if not us, who will do it? Who will speak up for the girl child?” It’s up to us to answer that call. #IDG2018 #GenerationGirl
Every girl deserves to have a Beth Adamson in her life; someone to cheer her on and tell her that her voice and story matters to the world. Who has been that person for you? Join us in celebrating her memory by sharing what mentorship has meant to you and thanking the mentors in your own life.
