What It Means To Be A Girl
I am 12 years old Canadian girl living with my parents, my younger brother and my twin sister.
For me what it means to be a girl is to be strong, capable, and free in making my own choices. I grew up thinking that something like sports were for boys and household chores was for girls, but now I believe that both girls and boys could do either things, but a lot of people still think what I thought while growing up. I want this to be changed because girls are as important as boys. It’s not always boys that are stronger and better but girls can be better too. As a girl I am confident that I can become my best self, with the support of my parents and teachers. Where I live, girls like me are allowed to do what we want, unlike girls in many other cities or countries. Girls will always have to fight for our rights to have a voice that everyone will listen to. Me and my twin sister perform dance which everyone appreciates. My mom taught us, me and my sister how to be responsible in small things like taking care of our brother and doing the dishes. We also have opportunities for martial arts like tae kwon do and band. I am proud to be who I am, and I hope I can bring changes in the world by encouraging other girls. My message to other girls like me is; don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself because we girls have our rights. We are the builders of a new world where girls and boys can enjoy the freedom, respect each other and work as a team.
