#IDGxWGG
October 11th, 2023 marks the 10th year of the Working Group on Girls (WGG) IDG Girls Speak Out. In the last 10 years, girls have taken up the leadership and advocated for themselves and the rights of others.
Last year, we celebrated the 10th anniversary of the International Day of the Girl in a first-ever hybrid event. This allowed girls worldwide to participate virtually and in person at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. We celebrated the achievements of and for girls over the past 10 years while continuing to hold ourselves and Member States accountable for the gaps that still remain.
This year, the theme of “Invest in Girls’ Rights: Our Leadership and Wellbeing” was chosen by a coalition of NGOs and girls in partnership with UNICEF as a reminder that girls’ rights continue to be neglected. Working to uplift girls in society is essential for fulfilling and protecting their rights. Girls have the capability to be the leaders and voice of tomorrow and need allies like you to stand with them.
We know that IDG is more than just a day – it’s a global movement that celebrates and advocates for girls for their rights. More than a decade later, we want to be bold in our demands for girls’ rights and call for investment in girls globally. This year’s celebration needs to be seen as a strategic moment for girls’ rights advocacy. As we hit the halfway point in our journey to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, now is the time to urge others on the necessity of investing in girls’ rights and achieving sustainable development goals. Join Us for IDG’s #11DaysofAction and together, we can change the world.
